Mobile content specialists Kamera have struck a deal with Astro, Asia’s leading cross media company, which sees Kamera’s live streamed entertainment channel available for the first time to mobile phone users in Malaysia.
Kamera’s entertainment channel, branded ‘Entertainment Daily’, is one of eight new Astro channels offered to Malaysian mobile users through the 3G network. The English- language channel ‘Entertainment Daily’ debuts today, Tuesday 21 November, in Malaysia.
Other new services available include live streams from CNN International, BBC World and CNBC as well as channels customised for mobile viewing from entertainment and education partners like MTV, the Discovery Channel and Cartoon Networks.
With the launch of 3G in May 2005, Astro was the first company to provide a multiple offering of seven mobile channels to operators and mobile phone users. This latest initiative sees Astro expand its offering to fifteen channels – the largest from any content provider in Malaysia.
‘Entertainment Daily’ is a localised and re-branded version of WOW!TV which offers a compelling mix of music, fashion, movies and celebrity news and gossip. The entertainment service, is currently carried by 25 mobile operators worldwide, and has proved a major success for Kamera. The Malaysian service will launch as a customised channel made specifically for mobile as well as video clips on demand.
“Astro is committed to offering compelling, quality content to Malaysians through any device or screen they choose to view” said Ms. Claire Mula, General Manager of Multimedia Interactive Technologies division, Astro. “We’re excited about launching Kamera’s ‘Entertainment Daily’. The channel provides Malaysian audiences a good mix between International and Asian entertainment coverage in multiple formats which are refreshed daily.”
“3G is growing at phenomenal rates and we enjoy working with many partners to bring the best of Astro multi- channel TV to the third screen,” concluded Mula.
Linda Bernström, Kamera’s Director of Sales Asia Pacific, added, ‘We’re delighted that Astro has selected Kamera’s live entertainment channel for its new Astromobile TV service in Malaysia. The channel offers a winning formula, because it delivers entertaining, time-sensitive, local and international news from the glamorous world of entertainment.’
The Astromobile TV service holds great significance as it is the first in Malaysia to offer mobile users a broad selection of live streaming and customised TV channels combined with easy channel switching and Electronic Program Guide (EPG).
The new service will be launched initially by Maxis, Malaysia’s largest mobile operator, as part of their TV offering to Maxis subscribers commencing November 21.
